After-School Enrichment Program

Headwaters ASEP Program

ASEP was developed in 2011 and currently serves Kindergarten through 7th graders at Rappahannock County Elementary School. The program supports and enhances each student’s academic development and provides a leadership approach to teaching and learning based on hands-on, experiential methods. ASEP strives to improve social opportunities and skills, team-building, homework habits, and classroom performance and ignite imagination and love of learning while providing a safe, healthy alternative for after-school time.

The program meets three times per week from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. and typically follows the school semesters. Our typical day includes a nutritious snack, outdoor activity time with a focus on improving physical fitness, homework help, and participation in enrichment groups. Our enrichment offerings are periodically changing and have previously included Lego® education, tennis, basketball, photography/videography, arts and crafts, dance, no-bake cooking, and science.

The mission of the After-School Enrichment Program (ASEP) is to provide a safe environment that supports the social, academic, emotional and physical growth of young people in Rappahannock County. Our vision is to encourage a lifestyle and attitude that embraces physical activity, good nutrition, positive social relationships with adults and peers, and mental wellness.

We accomplish our mission by providing the following to the youth in our program:

  • Healthy and nutritious snack
  • Outdoor activities and exploration
  • Assistance with homework
  • Enrichment clubs
  • Guest speakers that educate youth about a specific topic

ASEP is focused on giving children the opportunity to develop their confidence and access enrichment opportunities that are not always available in the traditional school day. We welcome guest speakers to teach students about a wide range of fun educational topics. Our goal with ASEP is to make learning interactive, exciting, and fun.

This program would not be possible without our incredible staff, school personnel, volunteers, teen mentors, and generous donors.
